Chris Billam-Smith to Defend WBO Cruiserweight Title Against Richard Riakporhe
"The Gentleman" Faces Stiff Test in First Title Defense
Chris Billam-Smith, the newly crowned WBO cruiserweight champion, will make his first title defense against challenger Richard Riakporhe on Saturday at Crystal Palace's Selhurst Park.
Billam-Smith (15-1, 11 KOs) won the WBO title in February after defeating Lawrence Okolie via majority decision. The 32-year-old has been impressive in his career, with only one loss to date.
Riakporhe (16-0, 12 KOs) is an undefeated prospect who has been knocking on the door of a title shot for some time. The 33-year-old has won his last four fights by knockout and will be looking to add Billam-Smith's title to his resume.
The fight is expected to be a close and competitive contest. Billam-Smith has the advantage of being the champion and fighting at home, but Riakporhe is a dangerous opponent who is capable of pulling off an upset.
