South Africa Election Results 2024: ANC Loses Parliamentary Majority

The African National Congress (ANC), which has ruled South Africa since the end of apartheid in 1994, has lost its parliamentary majority in the 2024 general elections.

With almost all votes counted, the ANC has secured 49.5% of the vote, down from 57.5% in the 2019 elections. The Democratic Alliance (DA) has increased its share of the vote to 27.6%, while the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) has received 10.5%.

The Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) has declared the results of the 2024 National and Provincial Elections, with the African National Congress (ANC) losing its parliamentary majority for the first time since 1994. The ANC received 49.5% of the vote, down from 57.5% in the 2019 elections, while the Democratic Alliance (DA) increased its share of the vote to 27.6%, and the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) received 10.5%.

The ANC's loss of its parliamentary majority is a significant development in South African politics. It means that the party will need to form a coalition with other parties in order to govern. The DA and EFF have both expressed a willingness to work with the ANC, but it is unclear what the terms of any such coalition would be.

The election results have been met with mixed reactions. Some have welcomed the ANC's loss of majority as a sign of a more democratic and competitive political landscape in South Africa. Others have expressed concern about the prospect of a coalition government, fearing that it could lead to instability and gridlock.

The IEC has called on all political parties to respect the election results and to work together to ensure a peaceful and stable transition of power. The ANC has promised to do just that, and has expressed its commitment to working with other parties to form a coalition government that will serve the best interests of the South African people.
