Whit Merrifield Traded to Philadelphia Phillies

The Philadelphia Phillies have acquired second baseman Whit Merrifield from the Kansas City Royals in exchange for a package of prospects. The deal was announced by Phillies general manager Matt Klentak.
Merrifield, 34, is a two-time All-Star and Gold Glove winner. He has spent his entire career with the Royals, hitting .291 with 111 home runs and 456 stolen bases.
The Phillies are hoping that Merrifield can provide a boost to their offense and defense. The team has struggled to score runs this season, and Merrifield is one of the best contact hitters in the game.
Merrifield is expected to make his Phillies debut on Saturday against the Atlanta Braves.
