Nobel Laureate Yunus to Lead Bangladesh Interim Government
Former PM Accused Yunus of Torpedoing World Bank
Yunus Appointed after Sudden Ouster of Hasina
Dhaka, Bangladesh - Nobel laureate Muhammad Yunus has been appointed to head Bangladesh's interim government, a day after former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina resigned amid accusations that she used her connections to hinder the World Bank.
Yunus, who founded the Grameen Bank and won the Nobel Peace Prize in 2006 for his work in microfinance, has been a vocal critic of Hasina and her government.
Hasina's ouster follows months of political unrest in Bangladesh, including protests over alleged corruption and voter fraud.
Yunus is expected to lead the interim government until elections are held in January 2024.
