BMW CEO Resists EU’s Combustion Engine Ban

BMW’s CEO: E-fuels Offer Climate Solution

Zipse: Berlin Would Never Agree to EU Ban

BMW CEO Oliver Zipse has voiced his opposition to the European Union’s plan to ban the sale of new combustion engine vehicles by 2035, arguing that e-fuels offer a more effective climate solution.

Speaking at a recent company event, Zipse said:

  • "E-fuels are the most important lever for climate protection in the transport sector."
  • "They allow us to use the existing vehicle fleet in a climate-neutral way."
  • "A ban on combustion engines would be a mistake."

Zipse’s comments echo those of other auto industry leaders, who have argued that e-fuels, which are synthetic fuels produced using renewable energy, offer a more practical and affordable path to decarbonizing transportation than a complete transition to electric vehicles.

The EU’s proposed ban on combustion engines has faced criticism from some member states, including Germany, which is home to a large汽车业. German officials have argued that the ban would harm the country’s economy and cost jobs.

It remains to be seen whether the EU will ultimately adopt the proposed ban. However, Zipse’s comments suggest that the auto industry is likely to continue to resist such measures.
