Plant Linked to Deadly Outbreak Broke Food Safety Rules, Records Show

Unsafe Practices, Inadequate Inspections

An investigation into a deadly E. coli outbreak has revealed that the processing plant responsible violated multiple food safety regulations and received inadequate inspections.

Records obtained by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) show that the plant:

• Failed to properly clean and sanitize equipment
• Allowed cross-contamination between raw and cooked products
• Used employees who had not undergone proper food safety training
